One Year Blogiversary Book Give Away!

This giveaway is now closed.
Winners will be announced 1/12/11

As you have probably gathered by now from the incessant amount of crazy I’ve insisted on pouring out today – today is my blog’s one year anniversary.

A year ago today, I decided to start writing reviews of the books I was reading. I never expected anything major to come of it, I just enjoyed writing my thoughts on what I was reading and sending them out into the ether. I never could have anticipated the incredible year I’ve had as a result of it.

I’ve met some very awesome people – most notable mentions must go to Elle from The Book Memoirs who is straight up fabulous, and the amazing Angie from Angieville who never fails in persuading me to read something. I’ve had opportunities to read some amazing books I wouldn’t have otherwise seen, and as a result been introduced to some awesome authors, and been in contact with some of my favourite authors, who haven’t seemed to mind my crazy fan girl squeeing at how awesome they are. Particular mentions go to – Gail Carriger, Ali McNamara, Deanna Raybourn, Cassandra Clare and the wonderful Sarah Rees Brennan.

So, after that little heartfelt splurge, I think a giveaway is in order.

I have for three lucky people, three fabulous ARCS.

One copy of ‘Fracture’ by Megan Miranda to give away, and two copies of ‘The Weight of Water’ by Sarah Crossan (full details of the books will be given below.)

If you would like to be in with a chance to win, all you need to do is tell me what your favourite book from this year is and why. Leave a comment in the comments section below, and if you have a preference over which book  you’d like to receive let me know that as well. If you’re a follower of my blog that is always a bonus, but not a necessity.

Winners will be drawn at random out of a hat and then notified.

The give away will be open from when this post goes live on 28th November until Midnight UK time on 1st December 2011.
The giveaway is open internationally.

You have two days, so get to it!

Fracture by Megan Miranda
Release date: 5th January 2012
Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine -despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?
Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening?
The Weight of Water by Sarah Crossan

  3. I'd say Anna Dressed In Blood. It was so scary I wasn't able to sleep the night I've read it, but it was so addictive and really good. Cam and Anna are a kickass duo! I'd love to win Fracture, if ever.

And I'm a follower as well (Kai Agito).

  4. I know it came out Dec. 28th of 2010, but I just read it this year, so I'll give a shout out to
When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. I thought it was masterfully crafted and beautiful. Since I know Megan and will buy Fracture as soon as it comes out, I'd prefer The Weight of Water, because then I'd have 2 fabulous books. :)

  5. I'll chime in another voice for Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, It blew me away and made me fall in love with language all over again.
(and while I'd love either book, I'd REALLY love Fracture, it looks amazing)
Thanks for the giveaway, and congrats on the year!
    Cheers~

  6. Thanks for the giveaway! My fave book that I read this year was delirium. I loved the dystopian setting and the take on love as a disease. It was interesting to see where it went and I'm super excited for the next book! I would live to read Fracture!

  7. It's a good question because I read so many books in a year that the merge into one another but the one that stands out as something really original and exceptional is "Florence and Giles" by John Harding. I say "original" because, although it's modeled on "The Turn of the Screw" it's Henry James with attitude (although that mightn't convey much in itself because it always struck me that attitude wasn't Henry James's outstanding quality). But the language of the girl narrator, who has taught herself to read in furtive visits to the house library ("a dustery of books") is so inventive.

By the way I met Julia Churchill, Sarah Crossan's agent earlier this year (mind you, although she said some nice things about my own MS, she didn't take it up but with hindsight she may have been right). However, it's on account of Julia's glowing account of "The Weight of Water" that I'm entering this competition (also my partner will like it, I hope, because she is Polish).

So, if I don't get a copy of it after all that, I will "wasp your picnic"!

  10. I'm breaking this into two parts: Fave YA book of the year and Fave Adult book of the year.
My favorite adult book of the year is The Night Circus. Truly I found the entire story idea to be beautiful and well done. It was magical.
My favorite YA book of the year is Fairy Bad Day. The humor in the book is what made this worth the read. Great pick me up for when you are having a bad day.

I would love an opportunity to be considered for Fractured! Thank you for the giveaway and have a wonderful holiday season. =^-^=

  11. Even though I've read a lot of good books, I'd have to say my favorite is Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma, because of the gorgeous writing and storytelling.

    I'd love Fracture!

  12. My favorite book this year is definitely Clockwork Angel. I love it so much because it has my favorite things a book can have: Vapmires, Nephilim, and a good love triangle. Cassandra Clare's books are amazing. I loved The Mortal Instruments, and I think she outdid herself again with Infernal Devices!!!

    Can't wait for Clockwork Prince!!!

  13. For me it was a tie between Daughter of Smoke and Bone and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. I LOVE both of them SOOO much!! I've read the first two chapters of Fracture on the Facebook page and I can't wait to read more!

  14. For me the book of 2011 has to be The Novel in the Viola by Natasha Solomons. It's her second novel and she really is going to be one to watch. The Novel in the Viola is stunning - Natasha's fabulous prose captures the beauty of the 1940s countryside, but it is also a powerfully moving story - the darkness of the holocaust never far away. I strongly recommend it!

  15. Oh, I'm not cheating and entering twice - but I just have to add that Dark Matter by Michele Paver is a MUST if you love wild bleak and beautify places with a sinister bit of haunting thrown into the mix - if you haven't read it yet then you should :-)

  16. Great giveaway and congrats on your blogoversary! It is so hard to choose my favorite read of 2011, there were so many awesome books! I think that my favorite was Where She Went by Gayle Forman. It was an awesome read and If I Stay was one of my favs so it would figure Where She Went would become as well!

  17. My favorite read of 2011 was actually a 2010 book. The Passage by Justin Cronin. Talk about a fantastic plot. amazing characters and a story arc spanning over 100 years and to be continued into a trilogy!!

Congrats on your first blogiversary!! My fave book this year is "The Night Strangers" by Chris Bohjalian (although, in fairness, I may be predisposed to liking it because I live in Vermont where the book is set and Chris is a local author whose various writings I often enjoy). Wicked good story. Don't want to say too much because it's fairly new and I despise spoilers. :)

  19. Argh! ONE favourite read? Really?! This is IMPOSSIBLE!
Right this minute, I'd vote for David Almond's THE TRUE TALE OF THE MONSTER BILLY DEAN. I love the way it's written; the fact that you can't rush through it, and you have to pause over each beautiful sentence. And I love the way it sounds in my head!
Laini Taylor's DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE is a close second, beaten only because it has sooo many mentions already.

If I were a lucky winner, either book looks fab :D
