Top Ten Auto Buy Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the wonderful folks over at 'The Broke & The Bookish' - to join in follow the link to see the upcoming topics!

Today we should really place bets - how many of my ten auto buy authors can you guess without looking at the list? I bet regular readers will probably get at least eight. If you do take a guess, let me know in the comments below how many you got! I end up reading a vast array of new authors, but I have a staple of favourite authors whose work I love and I will always come back to. I pine when there are no new books to be had, I fret when there's a long wait for a new title to be released, and then ultimately I am ridiculously happy when I have a books of theirs in my hands and am reading their magical word. So, onwards! My top ten authors who I will automatically purchase without any further information on the book apart from the fact that it is written by one of them. Hell, they could sell me a shopping list and I'd be happy...

A. C. Gaughen

With only three books released to her name you might think me preemptive. I say, have you read the Scarlet trilogy? If you have you will understand my absolutely adoration of Gaughen's writing. Those books are incredible, and quickly became one of my favourite series. Scarlet's voice was so clear, she was so beautifully written that she and her boys fell straight off the page into my head. I loved this re-telling of the Robin Hood story. I loved the twists, the gender bends, the gorgeous prose. I cannot wait to read anything and everything that she writes next, it's all going straight onto my auto buy list.

Deanna Raybourn
I came across Deanna's first Lady Julia Grey novel quite by chance when Amazon was suggesting books I might like, and it prompted a swift and permanent love affair with her writing. I wait with no so much patience for each new release, and shriek with unabashed joy when I get them in my grasp. I haven't met a book of Deanna's that I haven't loved and as a result she will always be an auto buy author for me.

Sarah Rees Brennan
I used to wait (with very little patience) for updates on Sarah's fan fics many, many years ago (seriously, over a decade now, TIME, WHAT!?) and that gleeful excitement and anticipation transferred across to her shiny published novels. Currently there is still FAR TOO LONG to wait until next April when her new novel 'Tell the Wind and Fire' is released, but it's already on the need it now list, as is any book Sarah writes  (even the ones that are but a little glimmer in her mind). I want them all, now.

Kristin Cashore
She may only have written three books, but I loved those three books so fiercely that I cannot wait for her to release another. Whilst I would personally be thrilled for another book based in the seven kingdoms (I've been making the monthly sacrifices to the gods in hopes of another) it doesn't matter what Kristin writes next, I know I will love it, hence why she's an auto buy author for me.

Tamora Pierce
The first books I ever bought with my first jobs wages were Tamora Pierce's books. Each week I would pick up the book I had ordered the weekend before and place an order for the next book, resulting in a steady stream of fantastic books. Tamora's books have shaped my reading and my love of books into what it is today, and as a result any upcoming books from her are treated with the greatest excitement and immediate purchase or pre-ordering.

Maggie Stiefvater
My first Stiefvater was The Scorpio Races, which meant I immediately scurried off to buy all of her previously released books and have every upcoming book on pre-order. Her writing is incredible, and I am waiting (anxiously) for the emotional destruction that is sure to accompany the release of 'The Raven King' early next year.

Julia Quinn
Julia's books got me through my A Levels, not even remotely exaggerating. My Mum stockpiled the entirety of Julia's books to date and dished them out to me for good behaviour copious amounts of revision, where upon I would take a break from the internet browsing hard work and devour the latest book in one sitting. Ever since she has been my chicken soup author, one I go to when I need a happily ever after and some reassurance about the world. I have an entire shelf, two shelves, several shelves of her books and my collection only grows with each new release.

Sarah J Maas
I will admit, when I first cracked upon my ARC for Throne of Glass, I was skeptical. I wasn't particularly convinced I was going to enjoy it, and then I promptly devoured the entire book in one sitting. And then sobbed when I realised how long I would have to wait for the next book. I am thoroughly hooked on the Throne of Glass series and really enjoying her new series too. Plus, I've also recently got my husband hooked on Throne of Glass too so that means she's a double auto buy author in our house. There's totally going to be a fight over "Queen of Shadows" and who gets to read it first...

Rainbow Rowell
I enjoyed, but wasn't blown away by my first Rainbow outing in 'Eleanor & Park'. I mean I enjoyed it, but it didn't hit me in the same way it seemed to be hitting a lot of other people, so I didn't go out of my way to read any of her other books. Then a very good friend of mine told me (justifiably) that I was being an idiot and bought me a copy of 'Fangirl'. Which I then stupidly packed in my suitcase for a very long train journey back home. Luckily I had a copy of 'Landline' idling on my kindle so I started that to see what I'd been missing. I finished the book in one sitting and it utterly wrecked me in the best possible way. I am a convert, a fan, a must read all of her books give them to me now oh hey wait let's pre-order her new one too, kinda fan.

Diana Gabaldon
I hadn't heard of Diana until I started watching Outlander and discovered that it was based on a series of books. Left stranded with no sign of the second half of the season FOR MONTHS I went and bought the book and loved it. I since went on to buy all of her other books. I may be taking a while to get through them (I have so many books to read and these books are LONG) but I love them so, so much, and she immediately shot onto my list of auto buy authors. I WANT IT ALL. But mostly Claire and her brilliant sass and Jamie and their incredible relationship which is up there as one of my favourite fictional relationships of all time, and I HAVE ONLY JUST SCRATCHED THE SURFACE.

So there you have it, my top ten auto buy authors. How many of them did you guess at the start? And how many do we share? Let me know in the comments below and link me to your own lists!

    1. DO IT! It's long, which can be daunting, but I ended up flying through it. It's such a good book, and Jamie and Claire, their relationship is awesome. Plus! I've just discovered the audiobook and am loving it (I'm really picky about my narrators, so this is a big thing :P) So if you're into audiobooks, this is definitely one I'd recommend.

  3. Seriously, Julia Quinn is the best! Do you have a favorite? My shelves are full of her books, too. I'm glad you liked that first Tessa Dare book. Which one was it. I LOVE HER! I also should have included Rainbow Rowell. For whatever reason she slipped my mind. But I love her books.

    1. I need to read more Tessa Dare (it was When A Scot Ties the Knot, as you've now discovered :P) because OH I AM IN LOVE. We should totally start a Julia Quinn fanclub! I have several favourites... I started with 'It's In His Kiss' so that holds a special place in my heart. But I adore 'The Viscount Who Loved Me' and 'Romancing Mr Bridgerton'. The Bridgerton's basically just win all the prizes...

    1. Oh the Scarlet trilogy is FANTASTIC, I really recommend carrying on with them. I was stupidly nervous before reading the second book in case it didn't live up to the expectations and the high bar set by the first, but it really does. The entire series is really gorgeous.

    1. It really is. I love so many of her covers! And having recently finished her latest book I can safely say that the insides definitely live up the expectations set by the outsides!

  8. (I have a feeling my comment didn't go through earlier xP)

Anyway, great list! Sort of following up from last week's TTT but I finally got around to reading another Julia Quinn novel! Not from the Bridgertons series (though I have An Offer from a Gentleman ordered) but Just Like Heaven, which was nice. Since then I've been on a bit of a historical romance kick but Julia Quinn so far has been my favourite of the lot; her romances are lovely and the character interactions hilarious =D

    1. Ah, no it didn't, but success this time! :) Ooo that's one of her more recent ones. I do really enjoy them, but I am still a sucker for some of her earlier books (I'm a Bridgerton girl through and through, can you tell?...) I've recently discovered Tessa Dare, so both she and Eloisa James are up there as ones to try too. But the wit in the Julia Quinn books will always remain my favourite! So glad you're enjoying all the romances! :)

    1. I know she's working on something new, so I'm desperately trying to be patient. It will be strange to read something from her not set in the seven kingdoms, but I loved her writing so much that it's just going to be amazing to have more books from her.

  15. Hi Rosy, I have to admit I've only read the novellas of Sarah J Maas but all of these authors are on my TBR pile. I plan to have a year (hopefully next year) of reading as many as possible from my stock pile! And as most of your list is in that pile I will start with these :) I loved reading your comments.
    Happy Reading!

ps So jealous that you're currently reading Crow Mountain. It's been on my radar for ages. I hope you're enjoying it.

    1. I really hope you enjoy her books when you get onto them! I can't wait to hear what you think of them! A year of stockpile reading sounds like such a good idea, I'm terrible for getting distracted by new shiny books... Plus, I love persuading people to read books and authors I adore, so I cannot wait to hear whether you enjoy them and who you ship and which books ripped your soul in two (because let's face it there should always be some healthy soul ripping with the really awesome books ;) ) And Crow Mountain is so far fantastic! Really, really enjoying it! :)
