Top Ten Books I Would Love to see as Movies/TV Shows

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the wonderful folks over at The Broke and the Bookish

We are currently experiencing a few incredibly good adaptations of books onto the screen - Outlander and Game of Thrones I am looking at you guys. So if we could continue with some more fantastic ones that would make me exceedingly happy, and if they could be ones from this list I would be even happier...

The Lady Julia Series by Deanna Raybourn
This one has actually been optioned by a UK TV company. That doesn't necessarily mean that it will get made, but I have everything crossed that it will because Lady Julia deserves to be seen by more people. I'm happy with either TV show or movie, just so long as they do Julia and Brisbane justice.

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
Another one that has been optioned, this time for a movie. Again, nerve wracking period where we don't know if it will go ahead or not, but I would give pretty much anything to see The Scorpio Races DONE RIGHT on the big screen. It is such an incredible book and I think it would lend itself really really well to a visual format. Plus, Tom Hiddleston has to be George Holly and Charles Dance has to be Benjamin Malvern. That is all.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
OH THIS BOOK NEEDS TO BE A MOVIE. I think this may in fact be another one that has been optioned, really who's surprised by this, it would be EPIC. This is just such a stunning and incredible book and I WANT TO SEE IT MORE.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman
Another one that has been optioned and latest news is that it has been picked up by Starz (they who are currently doing awesome things with Outlander) AND I AM FULL OF GLEE, because I trust Starz a lot and I think they will do amazing things with this book. AND BOY THIS BOOK. It is just incredible and so unlike anything else I have read and I really want to see it done justice.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
Think about it for a minute. THINK ABOUT THE GLORIOUSNESS THAT WOULD BE THIS. Seriously, this series would be incredible on the screen. I don't know if I want a tv series or film, mostly because films tend to get butchered and tv series get done right. If it could be done well then film, otherwise gimme all the tv episodes!

Heist Society by Ally Carter
This book as a film would be utterly brilliant. A bunch of teenage heist pullers and con-men who are sneaky, sassy and intelligent? I want it. I want it now. This book is fantastic and it would translate so brilliantly to the big screen. Why has it not already happened?

Graceling, Fire & Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
I want films, but they have to be done right or not at all. These are three of the books I am most protective of (along with Scorpio Races and Night Circus) and I am so desperate for films of them but also terrified of them being done wrong. Done right these would be glorious though. Brilliant characters, fantastic worlds and beautifully crafted plots, these could be extraordinary.

The Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray
These are such a fantastic series, and something so different to anything else we're seeing on screen at the moment. The books are populated with magic, incredible characters and a twisting and heart-breakingly wonderful plot. Movies or tv, I think either would work for this one, and it would be breathtaking to see it finally brought to life beyond the book.

The Scarlet Trilogy by A. C. Gaughen
I adore Scarlet and her Robin, Much and Little John. I want more time in their world, so much more time, and a tv series would be the perfect way to do it. She is such a brilliant heroine, a determined fighter and the world is so brilliantly crafted and filled with such wonderfully real characters. This series deserves to have a tv series so more people are able to see how good it is and discover the books.

The Curse Workers Trilogy by Holly Black
This series would make an incredible tv show. Magic is real, but controlled by the mob, illegal on the whole and it has actual consequences instead of people just casting spells left and right. This would translate insanely well to tv and I am surprised no one has jumped on it already.

So those are my top ten books that I am desperate to see turned into movies and tv shows. Are any of these ones that you would trade pieces of your soul on screen? Or have I missed some out? Comment below and send me links to your top ten lists!

    1. It would be incredible if they did it right. It's always the worry though with favourites - will they do it justice or muck it up?...

  2. We have several in common this week, I would love to see Throne of Glass on screen, whether it be TV or movie, and Heist Society would be a brilliant film. I liked The Scorpio Races, but it wasn't one of my favourite books ever and I think it might actually comes across better on the big screen, but that's just me.

    1. Heist Society is just made to be a film, I would love to see it, and Throne of Glass would be incredible too. The Scorpio Races is up there as one of my favourites - I love re-reading and listening to the audio and particularly when listening to the audio I can picture it as a film so clearly. I really hope that if they do go ahead and make it that they do it justice though.

    1. I adored it! The writing style isn't for everyone, it's very lyrical and takes its time over everything, but I couldn't get enough of it! I really hope you enjoy it in whatever format you come to it!

  7. Really great list!! I totally agree with Heist Society, Throne of Glass, and Graceling. Also, I appreciate that you've emphasized having it be "done right." And you've totally nailed it with Graceling - I feel protective of those books, too.

    1. I'm so insanely protective of some of these books, and Graceling could be incredible! But yeah, they have to get it perfect or not bother. I couldn't bear it if they destroyed it on screen, so many people would never find the books if the movies were rubbish. Thanks so much for reading!

    1. I think that with a few tweaks and plot lines shifted about a tiny bit the stakes could be raised and it could make it even more intense, but just to see those visuals would make me happy!

  12. I think everyone wants to see Throne of Glass on the big or small screen. I really need to read The Night Circus. I'm pretty sure it's been optioned, but you know how that goes. A Great and Terrible Beauty has been optioned more than once but nothing ever happened. Great list!

  15. I totally agree with Scorpio Races, but Tom Hiddleston as Holly? I can't see it. I've never seen him play an American before, so that's probably the reason.
The Night Circus would make a beautiful movie and The Heist Society would be so much fun!

    Thanks for stopping by!

    1. He does a fab american accent, but more than that the golden curls, the hats, the slight snark and humour, for me I can picture him so clearly as Holly. Heist Society would be a brilliant film, it's made to be filmed really! And I really hope they get on and do something with The Night Circus, the magic would translate so beautifully to film.

  17. The Night Circus would be a beautiful film! I would love to see it done in black and white with limited color. I would love a Throne of Glass adaptation- but I don't think I would ever be satisfied with a condensed version of the story! I really need to read The Scorpio Races!

    1. Oh that would be fascinating to see it filmed in black and white! Or maybe only when you enter the circus it swaps to black and white? The possibilities are endless! Why haven't they made this film yet?! That's the issue with adaptations, there are always going to be things left out, it's just how they handle that and what they choose to keep in. I hope you enjoy The Scorpio Races!

  20. The Night Circus would indeed be an incredible movie. It may even work better than the book, I think! And I think Heist Society will become a movie one day -according to IMDb- but I'm so excited for that one! I adore heists and cons.

    Great list!

    1. Fingers crossed for both of these! I'm less precious about Heist Society, as I don't think they could screw that up too badly! But The Night Circus I really hope they get right! I think you're right about it working better as a film than a book, it's something I would love to see!

  29. Terrific choices! I could go for almost any of these, even the ones I haven't read. Total agreement on the Lady Julia books (though I have only read two so far.) I also agree with Scarlet being made, although I really actually dislike the male characters in that trilogy, maybe I'd like them more on screen? I didn't really enjoy White Cat but the concept was really awesome so I agree with that one too. Would make a great TV show! Fantastic list :D

  36. I definitely DEFINITELY agree with White Cat and Heist Society...awk, come now, Heist Society is SCREAMING to be made into a film!! It's so perfect and it'd just be like the teen version of Ocean's Eleven or something (which I adore) xD I WANT THE SCORPIO RACES TOO. Except I'm a little scared they wouldn't capture Thisby, but pfft. I'd still watch it.
