Review Policy

Firstly I'd like to thank you for taking the time to look at my preferences and policies for reviews and posts.I love to hear from other reviewers, readers, writers and publishers alike and welcome any communication whether it's a tweet, a comment or an email. You can find my contact email on the home page or at the bottom of this page.

What can you expect?
I am not a professional book reviewer, I do this because I love books and I want to share my thoughts and feelings about books I read with other people who love books. I do this purely for the pleasure of communicating with other like minded people, and reading an insane number of books. I did however study writing as a degree so I tend to also comment on technical aspects of the writing in most book reviews. Mostly because it's been drilled into me to do this...
My book reviews consist mainly of my thoughts and feelings about the novel after reading, as a result my reviews are subjective.
My reviews are always honest, and are my own personal opinion of the book. This does mean that sometimes there will be negative reviews, but I always try to find some positives about the book as well, even if I did not enjoy it over all.
I always give books a star rating up to five stars for books I loved. You can check out my star rating system on the home page of my blog.

Spoilers: In every review I am careful not to spoil anything that happens in the book. As a result I will talk about the book as a whole and character development, but nothing that will ruin the reading for others.
If for any reason the review does contain spoilers, I will give a clear, bold warning at the start of the review so that readers can decide if they wish to continue. I also explain how bad the spoilers will be, for example, minor or big.
Every review is carefully checked for spoilers prior to publication, and in some cases is sent to the publisher to be double checked so that nothing is spoiled for the reader.

I do also try to publish my reviews on Goodreads as well.

All summaries/synopses are taken from Amazon.com, Goodreads.com,, or the publisher's website.

Types of novel accepted
I read mostly young adult books, but am usually willing to have a look at other books depending on interest.
I tend to read:
Paranormal and Urban Fantasy
Fantasy
Chick Lit
Romance
Contemporary Fiction
Historical Fiction

I do not accept most horror, non-fiction, or crime.

To have a better idea of the books I like to read, you can check out a complete list of books I have read and reviewed for this site here.

Series: I do not read series out of sequence. If you have a review request that is part of a series I have not read, I do ask that you provide a copy of each of it's predecessors. This will allow for a more effective review.

Self Published: I do not currently accept self published books to review.

E-books: I do accept e-books but due to personal circumstance books that can only be read through the internet are not accepted.

Essentially I accept finished copies, ARCS, galleys, eGalleys and Kindle formatted ebooks.

Requesting a Review
I prefer contact to be through email for requests, and do try to respond to each request I get.
My email contact is: Rose.j.mercer@gmail.com

If I do not respond immediately, it is not because I'm not interested- it is because I haven't gotten to your e-mail yet. However, if it has been a week or longer since your review request was sent and you still have not received a response, then feel free to send another one. Chances are the first one was sent to my junk folder, or just got lost.

If I do agree to take a look at the novel that I've been requested to review this does not guarantee that the novel will be read in its entirety, or that I will post a review.

If I have agreed to look at a novel I will read the first three to four chapters to establish whether this is a book that I would want to read. If it is not I will contact you explaining and declining to take the review further. If it is one that I accept I will finish the book in its entirety and write the review.
Every book I read in full is reviewed, regardless of whether that review is ultimately positive or negative.

I try to read books as quickly as possible, however I do have a lot of books on my ever growing to read pile. I will try to keep you updated as to the expected review date.
If the review is prior to release I will always review it before the release, or on the release date.

I am happy to host authors for an interview, guest post or a stop on a blog tour. I also will consider doing a Promotional Post featuring just the book, summary and info on the author.  Sometimes I do this on my own, other times authors can contact me to organise this.

I am also happy to host a giveaway for a book to aid in promotion.

Thank you again for checking my review policy. I do try to read and review as many books as I am able, and I do occasionally bend the rules in some cases. However I feel that stating it all clearly will help make it easier for you to decide if you would like me to review anything for you.
Thank you again.
